The grAI-Test Hits: a monthly live session from The grAI Team

Watch a Tableau workbook get documented with GenAI, live

Free, one hour, with Steve and Neil of the grAI Team.

Wednesday 2 September, 4pm UK, 11am Eastern.

We'll take a real workbook, chosen by the people in the room, and document it properly with AI in front of you. We will not have seen it first. You leave with the method, ready to run on your own workbook the next morning.

We respect your privacy. Unsubscribe at any time.

Can't make it live? Register anyway. Every registrant gets the replay for 5 days, plus a short follow-up series to put the method into practice.

You know the workbook

Forty calculated fields. One of them load-bearing. None of them explained. (The person who built it left in 2023. The filename is FINAL_v7_USE_THIS_ONE.twbx...)

Every Tableau team has one. Most have a folder full.

When we asked data people about their biggest blockers this summer, "lack of documentation" came up in exactly those words. Documentation is the job everyone agrees matters and nobody gets to, because the urgent work always comes first. So the knowledge lives in one person's head. And one day, that person hands in their notice.

One workbook, documented in front of you

This is a working session, not a slide deck. Live, we will:

  • Take a genuine workbook and document it with Claude while you watch
  • Turn every calculated field into plain English, map the data sources, and lay out how the workbook hangs together
  • Walk the method step by step, so you can repeat it on your own workbooks straight away
  • Show you where AI gets it right, where it gets it wrong, so you don't burn the time you just saved. You stay the judge of what's true

We'll close with a short look at what's coming next in Tableau and AI, and your questions.

We do the tracking so you don't have to

New AI tools land every week, and nobody has time to test them all only to find there was a more efficient one. That overwhelm is the most common thing data folk tell us. This hour puts you on the front foot for once.

We spend hundreds of hours a year staying ahead of Tableau and AI, doing the heavy lifting and sharing what we learn. What you'll see on 2 September is the working method we actually use, shown on a real workbook, warts included.

No staged demo, and no carefully pre-cleaned data. If the GenAI stumbles you'll see how we handle that too, because that's the part every polished demo leaves out. The last 10 percent is where AI usually wobbles, and handling that is part of the method.

Members of The Insights Collective have been using this method for weeks. This is your free peek inside. And we will give you the step by step guide to do it yourself, with our 'prompts'.

Two people who are obsessed with this space

Steve Adams (VizDJ). 35+ years turning data into decisions, Tableau trainer to enterprise teams, and the person behind the Tableau Bites newsletter.

Neil Richards. Tableau Visionary Hall of Fame, with deep roots in the Tableau community.

Together we're the grAI Team. The Insights Collective ("TIC") is where our deeper work lives; this hour is a piece of it, free.

For anyone who touches a workbook

This hour is for you if you:

  • Build or inherit Tableau workbooks
  • Are AI-curious but tired of staged demos that never seem to touch real work
  • Have ever opened a workbook you built yourself and thought, who did this?
  • Want a method to use the next morning, not a pitch

Any level. If you can open a workbook, you can follow this.

Questions people actually ask

Is it really free?

Yes. No card, no trial, no catch. Register and turn up.

What's the secret to documentation that actually gets done?

Blocking out a quiet Friday that never comes Making the machine do the boring 80 percent while you keep the judgement. That's the method we're showing you, live.

I can't make 4pm UK. Should I still register?

Yes. Every registrant gets the replay for 5 days, along with a short series of follow-up steps so the method actually gets used, not just watched.

Do I need a paid AI tool to follow along?

Not on the day. Watching costs nothing. To run the method yourself afterwards you'll need access to an AI assistant. We use Claude and we'll show you exactly how, and we'll talk honestly about the options and what they cost. We will give you a tool that you can use for free with most GenAI free versions.

What about our data? My organisation is strict about AI.

Fair, and so are plenty of the teams we work with. We'll show you what the method does and doesn't send to an AI tool, so you can have an informed conversation with your own IT and governance people.

What level do I need to be?

Any. Beginners will follow every step. Experienced builders will leave with a faster way to do a job they've been putting off.

Will you try to sell me something?

The hour is the method. At the end we'll mention what's coming up from us, including The Insights Collective, in a few minutes without theatrics. That's it. You won't have to stick around if it's not of interest to you.

One hour, and a method you keep
